LG G Flex 2 all but confirmed ahead of official CES unveiling, and it’s no longer a mid-range darling
We’re on the eve of the year’s biggest technology convention, and announcements and leaks are already starting to roll in. The latest happenings come from the LG camp, as the company’s leaked CES posters have revealed that they’re looking to talk about the LG G Flex 2 at their corners of the convention center halls.
While the posters themselves don’t reveal anything meaningful — they confirm the device is meant to bend, as we assumed — an alleged early press releases gives us a pretty clear idea of what to expect. The first takeaway is that LG is trimming this down, as its flexible, virtually indestructible display will come in at 5.5 inches instead of the whopping 6-inch frame of the original LG G Flex. That display will also come with 1920 x 1080 resolution, so not the highest available on the market but also not 720p, either.
Under the hood is expected to be either a Snapdragon 805 or Snapdragon 810 chipset, 2GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of internal storage, a 3,000mAh battery, a 13 megapixel camera with laser autofocus and optical image stabilization, a 2.1 megapixel front shooter, and more.
Folks can expect LG to bring back the unique self-healing back that debuted on the original G Flex. If you’re not aware, you could take a pocket knife to that thing and it’d look as good as new just a few minutes later. Not that you’re going to have pocket knives grazing your phone often or anything, but that should give you confidence that it can go toe-to-toe with your keys and pocket change.
We naturally assume LG will look to Android 5.0 Lollipop for software needs on any new smartphones going forward, though there’s no clear indication what the G Flex 2 will be launching with just yet. Suppose it’s just a matter of waiting for the formal CES announcement to see what, exactly, the South Korean company plans to do.
