After a couple of heartbreaking delays, owners of the Google Play Edition of the HTC One M8 and HTC One M7can finally enjoy a taste of Android 5.0 Lollipop. The upgrade is headed out to handsets over-the-air, so you’ll need a solid connection and a juiced up battery to ensure a successful upgrade.
The version coming in is Android 5.0.1, which Google started rolling out to Nexus handsets earlier in the week. That HTC leapfrogged the vanilla 5.0 upgrade seems to confirm that the company was waiting on some last minute bug fixes that Google wanted to clean up to shore up the otherwise solid Lollipop experience.
As far as what to expect, we imagine it’s strictly Android 5.0 Lollipop without much else smearing the experience. Of course, a bit of added support for that IR blaster and the extra depth information camera on the rear is likely to be in tow, though it should be almost like owning a Nexus device otherwise. Head to your settings menu and hit About Phone > System Update to get started.
