Sony Xperia Z2 and Z2 Tablet owners can stop berating Sony for the lack of Android 4.4.4 — it’s here, and headed to your device over-the-air as early as today! Along with the under-the-hood bug fixes and changes that Sony’s implemented, there are some exciting new features awaiting.
The first feature is especially nice for PlayStation 4 owners. You can now play your games using the PS4’s Remote Play feature. This feature streams your game to your phone or tablet over your WiFi connection and allows you to enjoy console gaming without having to be in front of the console.
The feature has theoretically worked over 4G for users of the Sony’s PlayStation Vita and has performed rather well, though we’re not sure if we can expect that same flexibility or level of performance from the latest Android update. Sony says the DualShock 4 controller will be fully compatible with this update, so you won’t have to run out and buy a special controller (nor will you have to put up with shoddy on-screen controls).
Also loaded up in this update are Hi-Res playback of PCM and DSD files over USB and 3.5mm, Sony’s DSEE HX technology for improving the sound quality of all your tunes and the ability to select optimal audio settings when using select Sony headphones. Here’s what else is on tap:
So when to expect it? Those with unlocked devices in select regions will be seeing it as soon as today, though if you’re on a carrier-controlled version of these devices you might not be able to get your hands on it for quite some time. Stay on the lookout for info from your carrier of choice to find out when it’ll be headed to your handset. We know many of you have been waiting for this for quite some time so let us know if this excites you in the comments section below.
