Sometimes, business isn’t pretty — it’s rough, dirty and dangerous. And those types of businesses need devices just as much as the next. That’s why Samsung wanted to introduce the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active for folks having to work in that environment. The 8-inch 1280 x 800 device has been built to be able to withstand drops from up to 1.2 meters, and also sports classification for being water and dust resistant. Samsung made it a point not to use the word “proof” here so we imagine there’s still some danger to having the device exposed to the elements.
The device doesn’t feature anything out of the ordinary otherwise. It’s a Samsung tablet that has the company’s customer user experience sitting atop Android 4.4 KitKat. It has physical keys for home, menu and recent apps as these rugged devices often do. It also comes with a C-Pen stylus attachment for folks who might need to use the thing with gloves (such as those working inside a factory or at a construction site).
For specs, Samsung’s hooking us up with a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, a 3.1 megapixel rear camera, a 1.2 megapixel front camera, 16GB of internal storage and more. The device will be available in both WiFi and WiFi+LTE configurations, and we imagine the latter will cost more should you opt for that version. Unfortunately Samsung had no details to share in terms of pricing and availability, but don’t expect 2014 to expire without being able to purchase one.
