The Xperia Z2 was just released back in April, but that hasn’t stopped Sony from already announcing its sequel. Just moments after they unveiled the SmartWatch 3 with Android Wear they officially showed off the Sony Xperia Z3. The Z3 doesn’t offer a whole lot of differences from the Z2, but it has changes where it counts.

The Xperia Z3 still has a 5.2-inch 1080p display, a 20.7MP camera, and waterproofing. The biggest aesthetic change is a more rounded aluminum frame, which should make it much more comfortable to hold. Sony has also added a new wide-angle 25mm lens, extra-high ISO 12,800 light sensitivity, and a slightly more powerful 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor. Audiophiles will be happy to hear new DSEE HX audio upscaling and digital noise cancellation.

The Xperai Z3 will come out some time this fall in four colors. Sony did not mention any carriers specifically, but there will be at least one version with LTE data for North America. We would love to see this device come to the States. Would you be interested in the Sony Xperia Z3?

Ever since I flipped open my first phone I've been obsessed with the devices. I've dabbled in other platforms, but Android is where I feel most at home.

  1. Uh, hell yeah I’d want one…on Verizon…..hopefully…

    1. 100 percent coming to T-Mobile. DES already did an unboxing for tmobile version

      1. T-Mobile no equals VZW.

  2. I would buy one today if it were available in the states
    Hint, Hint……..
Sony since this seems to be hard to understand i’ll put it in plain English for you. Get you Mother Fucking PHONE IN THIS MOTHER FUCKING COUNTRY

    1. I”m right there with ya buddy

      1. I think this time it’s coming….I’d be flabbergasted that they would announce PS4 remote play and then totally ignore the US. Plus when he said it will come out on 4 carriers, I think he specifically meant the US.

    2. It has to compete with the Nexus line to be worth it… I’m not paying $600+ for a “flagship” phone when there’s a 90% spec comparable phone available for half the price.

    3. I think she’s beautiful enough to import if the required LTE bands are included. I haven’t seen a listing on which frequencies are supported yet.

      1. I am seriously considering this option…

  3. yes, this is my next phone, just hoping T-mobile picks it up.

    1. I want to upvote your comment 100 times!!!! Can’t wait to play my .FLAC files on this beast with the Audio-Technica M50s! #Spoiled

  4. OMG!!!!OMG!!!! OMG!!!!!!!

This is a bigger announcement than the GN4 IMO!!!!!!

*Now praying to the tech gods for the Z3 compact with identical specs ( sans screen )*

Bring it To the Red White and Blue Baby!!!!!

    Edit:
Cnet confirms the Z3 compact has identical hardware and software except for a 4.6 inch 720p screen on the same frame as the 4.3 inch Z1 compact!!!!

  5. Really? I think that the G3 and the One have these beat in the looks department. Opinions I guess.

  6. So we get new Xperias every 6 months now?

    1. We get a new Galaxy every other month it seems.

      1. It’s annoying when companies can’t support a product. I want companies to support phones for at least 2 years. Samsung convolutes their own lineup worse than any Android OEM.

        1. Well seeing as the Galaxy S2 is on KitKat right now, there’s no doubt that Samsung at the very least supports their flagship devices

          1. Not all of the S2’s have 4.4, but Google designed KK to work on devices with 512 MB of RAM anyways, so Samsung could put out one last major update.

          2. They won’t. I can understand it too. It’s a bloody old phone. You can’t support them forever.

        2. My Sony Xperia Z Ultra has 4.4.4 on it; Sony does a great job at keeping up with updates.

          1. That’s probably the GPE one though!

  7. Please VZW. Please VZW. Please VZW. Please VZW.

    1. NO!

      1. No? Sad face :(

  8. The most attractive? I don’t know about that. It’s been the same design since the very first one. It’s not bad looking, but it’s not exciting anymore either. The cleaned up the edges here and there, but it’s not much different in the design department.

    1. What would you say is most attractive then?

      1. I would have to agree this is a very attractive looking phone. Also attractive, is the Moto X and One M8.

    2. But that’s it…its so damn perfect… Its been the subtle changes over the time that has made this device dope as hell!!!

  9. OK, Sony bring this to the US soon, please. Any network (preferably Sprint but I’d switch if needed). I want that camera. Take my money already, lol.

    1. Sprint will start carrying Sony phones

  10. Ide switch from my normal galaxy upgrade to Sony for this phone if it was on verizon.

  11. Sony Xperia Z3 officially announced, *could’ve been the most attractive Android phone

    1. Only if it comes with QHD and 805 huh?

  12. I don’t see how the Moto X+1 can beat these new Xperia phones. Well played, Sony.

(EDIT: Samsung is no longer a consideration for me.)

  13. This is really what the Z2 should have been. Not least because it’s not really fair for people who just bought a Z2 and not even 6 months later have a phone with design and technical improvements which could have been implemented when the Z2 was released.
Having said that, I think it’s great that Sony is tweaking, and I hope they can keep this one going for longer.

    1. Owners of Z2’s can look forward to the Z4 coming out in 6 months.

  14. I’m not seeing the beauty of this phone. It has huge top and bottom bezels with on screen buttons that simply add to that. I’m sure its a premium feeling phone, but look wise I’m not impressed. The specs are solid tho..

  15. How is a plain rectangle attractive? In this case, I think it borders on UN attractive actually. I will say however, that I appreciate not having a big button on the bottom (hint samsung), and the copper color is kinda neat. Maybe my thoughts will change once I can actually hold it.

  16. Sorry but no. It’s too….boxy.

For me most attractive phone is a tie currently, between the G3 and M8.

  17. Z1S user here. Happy to know that even the Z3 isn’t that huge of an upgrade still.

  18. “The brand-new Sony Xperia Z3 phone, announced today, will be coming to Verizon Wireless as the Z3v, according to reliable documents sent to PCMag.com.”

  19. Is the battery removable?
