First thing’s first: LG Electronics had a pretty damn good Q1 2014. The company posted revenues of $13.35 billion company-wide, which was a meager 1.2% over the same quarter a year ago.
Positive is positive, though, so kudos to them. That led to increased net profit of $86.82 million. Drilling down further, LG’s mobile sector shipped 12.3 million smartphones, which was a 19% increase from the same period a year ago.
Those smartphones accounted for 75% of all LG Mobile sales, which means they’re finally moving the needle up against Samsung. It might not amount to a ton when considering Samsung’s own growth, but for as hard as it is to keep a steady train of success going in this industry it can be marked as a big feat. Revenue from the Mobile division was about $3.19 billion, which is just under a quarter of all company-wide revenue — not too shabby, LG.
With that, LG felt it necessary to mention that they expect these numbers to get even better in Q2, and in explaining why they believe that they were willing to name drop their next flagship smartphone — the LG G3. We’d be fools not to think it exists, but hard confirmation from the source is always noteworthy.
Rumors say the G3 should be rolling in with a 5.5-inch QHD display (2560 x 1440), LG Odin octa-core CPU, and a 16 megapixel camera. It’ll also be continuing LG’s trend of rear buttons as opposed to the traditional side-mounted affair.
Also expected to contribute to LG’s Q2 is a wider launch of their L-Series III line, their entry-level smartphones for budget-minded consumers. Head to the source link if you’re interested in the full numbers.
