Why does the Mad Catz M.O.J.O. gaming console cost more than a PS3 or Xbox 360?
Mad Catz has been working to gain interest in their own Android-based gaming console since this past year’s E3, and now the company’s own creation is finally slated to ship this holiday season. The M.O.J.O., as it’s called, has gotten a ship date of December 10th, and it will cost game-loving consumers $250 to own one.
Yes, that’s $250, more than the price you can pay to own an entry-level Playstation 3, an entry-level Xbox 360 or even a Wii U right now if you’re lucky. For that, you’re getting a Tegra 4 chipset, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi N and more. Storage can be expanded with an SD card slot which can accept cards of up to 128GB.
The device also features a bevy of ports, including USB 2.0, USB 3.0, HDMI-out, an ethernet port, a 3.5mm headphone jack and more. $250 will also get you the “C.T.R.L.R.,” which is a full-featured gamepad that can also be used with most Android devices you already own.
Access to Amazon Appstore and Google Play Store games will be nice for those looking for a nice collection of games to choose from, but does that — alongside a console with a slick looking design — really warrant a $250 purchase? We can’t say for sure just yet, but we certainly wouldn’t mind paying just as much to buy, say, a Nexus 7 with a Bluetooth controller to pair it up with for the same experience.
