It looks like Sony is quite serious about keeping its phones and tablets upgraded as the company has already committed to bringing Android 4.3 — which was announced yesterday — to its latest Xperia devices. Sony has announced that the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia SP and Xperia Z Ultra will all be receiving Android 4.3 at some point in the future.
Of course, some of you are still waiting to be stepped up from 4.1 to 4.2. The Xperia Z and Xperia ZL are already getting that particular upgrade right now, while the Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z will be getting that same treatment in August.
As for the rest of the devices still on 4.1, Sony says it will look to upgrade select devices from Android 4.1 straight to Android 4.3 in due time, though the company couldn’t confirm when this would happen, or for which exact devices.
Android 4.3 isn’t the blockbuster upgrade we’ve all been waiting for, but we weren’t expecting it to be at some point. Google added some very important features, such as built-in support for Bluetooth LE, profile restrictions and content DRM, but nothing quite as exciting as what we received in Android 4.2 could be found.
We have a feeling Google’s holding back the real goods for the illustrious Key Lime Pie upgrade we’ve all been waiting for, though there’s no telling when we’ll see that at this point.
We’re not in any huge rush, though, as we’re still waiting for lots of folks to be stepped up to Android 4.2. In any case, be sure to stay tuned to Sony’s blog for more details about these upgrades in the coming weeks.
