Construction of the Eiffel Tower

Google Maps Street View takes us up 1,710 steps to the top of the Eiffel Tower

Okay, so yesterday’s tour of an Arizona carwash wasn’t the most exciting place we’ve visited through Google Street View, but today they’ve completely redeemed themselves. Buckle your seat belts, boys and girls, cuz we’re flying to Paris! And what place on Earth is more iconic than France’s own Eiffel Tower? There’s a good chance I’ll never live to see the Eiffel Tower in my lifetime, so I find it truly amazing that with just a few clicks, I can take a 360 degree virtual tour of the monument thanks to the power of Google Maps Street View, and the Google Cultural Institute.

It’s all rather magical and the view from the top (1,710 steps) is completely stunning. You can learn everything there is to know about the Eiffel Tower by visiting its page on the Google Cultural Institute’s site, where you’ll find early design sketches, historic photos, and even a Thomas Edison voice recording of Gustave Eiffel himself. Beautiful.
