Xperia Z Ultra arrives September 13th in the UK, probably won’t fit in your skinny jeans [VIDEO]

The Sony Xperia Z Ultra was announced at the Mobile Asia Expo just a short while ago, and now we have a release date to look forward to. Retailer Expansys has confirmed that the device will arrive in the UK September 13th, just under two months from now. We’d circle the date, but put a note by it as these dates often tend to shift around as we inch closer and closer.

The Xperia Z Ultra is quite the interesting device, with it being Sony’s first foray in the phablet genre Samsung has been credited with making. It’s a 6.4-inch full HD smartphone that also happens to be waterproof, and can accept stylus input from nearly any pointing device you have (including your finger, of course).

The device also features a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, an 8 megapixel HD camera with a 2 megapixel front camera, NFC, 4G LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth and more. Oh, and while it’s quite slim (just 6.5mm) it still leaves quite a footprint in its overall dimension. Just take a look at this pocket test by our friend Richard Lai:

Seriously, it looks like he’s about to go suit up for a football game. While I like to wear my clothes just a bit more loose than that, I still wouldn’t feel comfortable with this thing sitting in my front pocket all day. Hell, I once broke a Galaxy Nexus by simply sitting down, so I know the Ultra Z would be a problem. Regardless, it’s a nice looking phone that’s huge in more ways than just its size.

Expansys will be asking for £639.99, though there’s no word yet if that includes VAT. We’ll try to get those details shortly. In the meantime, go ahead and check it out at their website to see if you can put up with what is teetering on that ever-so-thin line between smartphone and tablet.
