Plants vs Zombies 2 delayed until “later this summer”

Another unfortunate delay has hit the gaming world. Plants vs Zombies 2, originally unveiled in early May, was set to come out July 18th, but it seems EA and Popcap aren’t confident that the game can be ready by then. The game’s release window is now “later this summer.”

A definitive reason wasn’t given, of course, but we imagine they need more time to polish things up here and there before its QA checks are satisfactory enough for release. We’re not totally mad — we always encourage developers to take as much time as they need to get it right — but it definitely is saddening. Plants vs Zombies 2 is the sequel to one of Android’s biggest hits, one the gaming community on this side of the smartphone pond embraced when it finally made its way to the land of Google.

Of course, one might speculate that Popcap has to funnel more resources into making their console title Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare, a full 3D titled being developed on the same Frostbite 3 engine that DICE’s Battlefield 4 is based on. Speculation isn’t worth much, though, so we can only go based on what the horse’s mouth delivers. Popcap says they’ll have more information for us down the line, but all we can do for now is wait… and play more Plants vs Zombies 1.
