ATT NEC Terrain front back

AT&T NEC Terrain now available online for $100 with a 2-year agreement

I’ll admit, the amount of Android devices featuring physical QWERTY keyboards is slowly dwindling, but thanks to the newly launched BlackBerry Q10, we might see them make a comeback.

Take the AT&T NEC Terrain for instance. Available online-only starting today, the device shares a BlackBerry-styled 4-row physical QWERTY keyboard on its face, along with a 3.1-inch 640×480 resolution display. While that may sound small, keep in mind you wont have to bother with a virtual keyboard taking up added screen real estate. The device also trumps the Q10 thanks to it’s weatherproofing, making it waterproof for up to 30 minutes fully submerged.

The device also packs HTC One-ish front facing speakers, and a more than adequate Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor to handle whatever business-ie things its target market might want to use it for. You’ll also notice what looks like a mostly stock Android 4.0 experience, 5MP/.3MP cameras, micro SD card slot, removable battery, and NFC. Not a bad “dad phone.”

A throwback to the old days for sure, yet one I can’t help but miss. I can’t help but wonder if we’ll ever see this QWERTY form factor make its way to the increasingly popular 5-inch+ Android phablet devices? That was a joke, but seriously…. picture it.
