Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom goes official with 16 megapixel 10x optical zoom camera sensor

Samsung has confirmed another device that has been making its rounds in the rumor mill the past couple of months. The Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom is the company’s camera smartphone that has a 16 megapixel 10x optical zoom sensor implanted in the back (alongside a nice Xenon flash). This device falls a tad short of the actual Samsung Galaxy S4 in terms of the rest of its specs. Its tale of the tape reads as follows:

The Galaxy S4 Zoom features a few features unique to that camera sensor on the back. One of the biggest is Zoom Ring, a feature that allows you to automatically activate the camera, take a photo, and send it to whoever you’re talking to on a call as an MMS message. You’ll also be using the Zoom Ring to open the camera from within any app or to adjust the composition of a shot ala a DSLR lens — no more W/L buttons to press in order to get it where you want.

Other features will include Photo Suggest, a tool that’ll show you pictures other photographers (phonetographers?) have taken in whatever area you’re in — just in case you’re finding it difficult to get those creative juices flowing. Smart Mode and Smart Mode Suggest are your typical automatic camera setting features that’ll let you detail the type of scene you want and will automatically adjust settings to help you achieve that look or goal.

Finally, Story Album will let you organize your photos into a decent looking gallery, while Blurb-based software will let you edit your photos on the go. This phone obviously wasn’t meant for those who need a mini computer in their pockets, but if you needed a phone that had an above-average camera suite this is certainly going to be one of your best options. The device is slated to ship in the UK this summer, while a US launch is planned for Q3.
