Mid-range Sony Xperia M announced
The folks at Sony have unveiled another new smartphone for the masses to sink their teeth into. The latest from the Japanese company is being dubbed the Sony Xperia M, and it’s an entry-level offering aimed straight for those who want a smartphone but don’t want the costs associated with owning them. As you’ve come to expect by now, this is an Android 4.1 smartphone with Sony’s custom user experience sitting on top.
For specs, Sony’s initial product information is a bit odd. On one hand they say we should expect a 1GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor, while another says to expect a 1.7GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 Pro. We’ll be looking to get a more pointed spec sheet from Sony, but in the meantime just know this one is powered by a Qualcomm-based dual-core processor. We’re also told to expect 1GB of RAM.
The 4-inch display isn’t full HD at 854 pixels tall by 480 pixels wide, but that’s to be expected. You’ll also be getting a 5 megapixel HD camera on the back that can shoot HDR photos. There’s a front-facing camera as well, but we’re not sure of its exact quality just yet.
You can also expect Sony’s unique chassis design that features a bottom illuminating bar. Sony is planning on launching this guy in single-SIM and dual-SIM models, though we’re not sure when we can expect it to launch. Sony’s shooting for Q3, but not promises are being made yet. As such, you can probably already guess that there is no pricing information to be had, though we imagine it’ll be much cheaper than, say, the Sony Xperia Z.
