Report: Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 will feature Intel Clover Trail+

According to a new report, Samsung’s next-gen Galaxy Tab will not rely on silicon made in house as others have in the past. Nor will the slate be powered by the ARM processors typically associated with Android devices. Instead, Samsung has opted to go with Intel’s Clover Trail+ CPU for the 10.1-inch version of the Galaxy Tab 3, according to Reuters.

If these reports pan out, it would mark the highest-profile android launch for Intel. The chipmaker hasn’t been able to gain a strong foothold in the mobile market, though previous Atom-based chips have made their way into other Android releases.

Samsung, who will also deploy Intel chips in their upcoming line of ATIV Windows tablets, could still opt to use different processors in other versions of the Galaxy Tab 3, though this remains unconfirmed. A June 20th event will host the launch of said Windows tablets with the possibility that we could see the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 unveiled at the same time. More likely, though, is a separate event to debut the company’s next big Android tablet.
