With the NVIDIA Project SHIELD’s loose “June” release date fast approaching, we’re getting moist (or maybe just me?) thinking about all the high-def gaming the portable gaming the handheld system will bring to Android. To give you a better idea of what to expect, we found 9 NVIDIA Tegra 4 enhanced titles and threw them together in a mashup video, showcasing each and every one.
These games specifically leverage the raw horse power of the Tegra 4 processor’s 72-core GeForce GPU to push out enhanced graphics above and beyond what you’re normally used to seeing in mobile gaming. As a “gamer” myself, I loved what I saw. Small details from particle effects, to dynamic lighting, and more detailed normal maps and textures. All this and SHIELD didn’t even break a sweat. Check out all the games in our hands-on video below.
While Project SHIELD is just around the corner, the Tegra 4 processor likely wont debut inside smartphones until sometime during August of this year in the form of the Tegra 4i (codenamed “Grey”). Yesterday, NVIDIA posted a detailed behind the scenes look at everything that went on to deliver a show-ready Tegra 4i reference prototype for Mobile World Congress in just under 22 days. A feat in itself, the Tegra 4i processor will be NVIDIA’s first ever mobile processor with their programmable “soft modem” technology built right in. Let’s hope they can woo more Android manufacturers to jump on board. I wouldn’t mind having that GeForce GPU inside my next Android.
