HTC offering unlocked HTC One for $575
If you’re not interested in paying $650 for the 64GB developer edition of the HTC One (view our HTC One developer edition unboxing), HTC has another opportunity for buying the device unlocked that you may be interested in. The company has listed the 32GB unlocked version of its phone for $575 on its own website, good for use with any GSM network in America and around the world.
It’s the same HTC One we reviewed late last week, except it’s not bound to any specific carrier and doesn’t have any carrier bloatware or logos. The updates will be issued by HTC, which could mean faster updates than what carrier versions will get.
That said, this device won’t come with the same unlocked bootloader that the developer edition comes with. We’re not sure if that will mean anything in the long run as HTC could offer an unlock tool on its HTCDev website, and the beautiful development community surrounding Android could come through with an unlock method of its own, but it’s something to consider.
In our official HTC One review, Chris praised the device’s design, its beautiful display, great battery life and improved Sense, but also noted some inconsistencies that might annoy users. I won’t spoil all the juicy details from that piece so you’ll just have to read the review. The 4.7-inch full HD device comes equipped with a 1.7GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, HTC’s innovative UltraPixel camera, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and more.
