Followup to LG Optimus G hinted for Q3 release, stays with 5-inch display
The LG Optimus G Pro, which is likely to be announced for US release at a May 1st press event, was always intended as an iterative release. It’s specs were a decent upgrade over the Optimus G and the phone featured a larger 5.5-inch display, but a true flagship followup it was not. Now LG is teasing the real sequel for a Q3 2013 release.
The phone, which will be released globally and could very well be known as the LG Optimus G2, was called “something different and something unique” by Won Kim, who leads the mobile marketing team from LG’s headquarters in Seoul. It was also suggested the the phone will buck the trend of growing screen sizes and maintain a display closer to the original’s 5-inch proportions.
There is plenty that remains a mystery about the device, but current speculation points to the handset running on the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 platform. That spec alone would give the phone a leg up on the current generation of flagship devices like the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One. It sounds like LG will leave the Optimus G Pro to spar with those devices and hold off the big guns for later this year.
