Along with news that the Samsung Galaxy S4 would be launching in the US starting this month, Samsung also announced the list of accessories we could look forward to down the line. The list contains a healthy mixture of cases, docks, battery-saving utilities and audio devices. For starters, the standard Flip Case is back in an assortment of colors and can be had for $40. For $30, you can get the traditional cover that will protect the back and sides of the device, creating a buffer between the surface of the device and whatever it hits when you eventually drop it (oh, it will happen).
One new type of cover Samsung is introducing is the S View Flip Cover, which has a clear window that will give you a quick look at the time, data, battery life, messages, and more while the cover is still closed. And like the regular flip cover, opening the case will automatically wake your phone up. This’ll run you about $59. Also unique to the Galaxy S4 line is the external battery charger that can fit Samsung’s standard 2,600mAh battery.
The Galaxy S4 will also be able to share many of the same accessories compatible with the Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, and Galaxy Note 8.0. These include the AllShare Wireless Hub for $100, a device that will let you beam your pictures, video, music and more to your television. The same Smart Dock that Galaxy Note 2 users can be used with the Galaxy S4, and that also costs $100. A universal desktop media dock, vehicle dock, MHL adapter, external battery, headphones, headsets and more are all available at varying costs. You can view the full assortment of accessories in the fact sheet below, and start planning your purchases to make sure you have what you need by the time the device launches starting next week.
I dare say we will see all these somewhat esoteric addons before we see the 32Gb and 64Gbodels. We’re still waiting for the promised 32Gb and 64Gb versions of the Note II.
I see nothing about wireless charging. It didn’t sound like the S4 would come with it, but it would be available as an accessory, however the above list doesn’t list it yet.
I don’t mean to get off topic here but I sure wish Samsung had done this with the Nexus 10. Maybe it’s Google’s fault but the lack of accessories is sad.
Thats Stock Android vs Touchwiz for you. They didn’t really have anything for the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus either. Why promote stock devices when they want you to use their skinned devices.
Where’s the official gamepad / controller ?
All of these accessories are way, way overpriced!!! Desktop charger is an absolute must for me though.
Damn. This is one thing Android OEM’s have needed to do from the start. Finally.
Samsung also promised a wireless charger for the s3????? Wtf these accessories will take forever to come to market.
