Xbox SmartGlass update brings support for Android tablets

When Microsoft finally released a good Xbox application for Android in Xbox SmartGlass, the world rejoiced… until we found out that the app was only available for smartphones. All that’s changing today, though, as a new upgrade will bring support for Android tablets. Specifically, users with tablets sized 7 inches and higher (which pretty much covers most of the spectrum) will be able to keep up with their friends and control several aspects of media consumption through the bigger screens.

Alongside that, SmartGlass will now stay awake during periods of inactivity so you won’t have to wait a few seconds for a reconnection each time you decide to leave the app. It was one of my biggest pet peeves even if the connection didn’t take long to establish, so I’m quite pleased Microsoft has decided to address it in this update. Microsoft also noted that numerous design and usability improvements have been made, as well as the usual round of bug fixes. You’re looking at an 18MB download in the Google Play Store so get going on that and enjoy SmartGlass on bigger glass.
