We’ve already seen the Huawei Ascend Mate and Huawei Ascend P2 at CES and Mobile World Congress earlier this year, and while we wait for Huawei’s 2013 “hero” devices to make their way stateside, we now have an idea on how the manufacturer plans to make them a hit. 1 word: Jonas.
Yes, folks. Huawei — who raked in a cool $2.5 billion in profits for 2012 — will be leveraging the raw power of the teen heartthrob sensation known only as the Jonas Brothers to help make a splash here in the US. This, in hopes of increasing brand recognition in a market where quite literally nobody knows the smartphone manufacturer by name (let alone, how to pronounce it). Also, what better way to advertise shiny and new affordable smartphones than at a summer concert tour filled with your target audience (teens)?
This actually isn’t the first time we’ve seen Huawei’s affinity for thumpin’ jams. In 2011 at the Huawei MediaPad announcement, Huawei enlisted the help of some hip hop dancers shake their thangs and generally make everyone really uncomfortable. It was even captured on video (check out the white guy at 0:21 who’s almost terrified to look at the dancers flailing their arms around him).
