Evernote 5.0 brings slew of new features
It seems as if the folks at Evernote are feeling the heat from Google following the launch of Keep. The premium note-taking service has gotten a big app upgrade today. Evernote version 5.0 brings a lot of new goods, though depending on who you are it’s possible that some of it won’t be of much interest to you.
For starters, a new Page Camera mode digitizes photos of physical documents and pages of your notes. This means you can scan documents using your camera and have it all ready to view without much effort.The feature will enhance the look of the document (by bumping up the contrast, really) to make it easier to view on your mobile display.
Evernote is also adding support for its Smart Notebook by Moleskine. The Smart Notebook is said to have specially formatted pieces of paper designed to be used with the Page Camera feature. That particular notebook is a tad steep at $24.95, but it does come with a free three-month subscription of Evernote Premium for your troubles.
Other new features of today’s big upgrade includes Documents Search and Shortcuts. As you’d expect, the former will let you search for text within attached documents, spreadsheets, and presentation files, making it easier to find whatever you have in your notes. That particular feature is reserved for premium users so you’ll need to cough up some cash if you want it. Finally, shortcuts are rather straight forward: you can create shortcuts to jump right to individual notes, notebooks, and tags.
Any fan of Evernote should find something to like in this package, and although the service isn’t trying to be the lean, petite simple note-taking experience that is Google Keep, it’s still worth taking a look at even if you don’t see yourself needing all it has to offer.
