Pebble smart watch firmware 1.9 now available

6

A few days ago, we were told about a new firmware upgrade headed to the Pebble smart watch. We were told to expect new watchfaces (including a snake clone), as well as some under-the-hood changes, tweaks, and fixes that would make the experience better for users and developers (in the future) alike. Welp, that update is finally officially available.

Version 1.9 introduces everything as promised, as well as tweaks to the ambient light sensor that will improve performance of the device’s backlight feature. In order to update you’ll want to head to the update menu inside the Pebble app, which can be downloaded for free in the Google Play Store. Get to it, and let us know how you’re liking it in the comments below.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. I’d probably like it more if I actually had mine yet. Of course, I didn’t get in on the kickstarter, and then I ordered a red one, so that’s probably my own fault…

    1. Wait it out, it’s well worth it.

  2. Been on it for a few days. Not much different than the nightly builds.

  3. May 7th backer, white. I’ll probably never get it.

  4. Loving it. Running the old school Casio look right now. The new FW does make more sense re: navigation and watch faces.

Snake game is more proof of concept than anything else. Played it once. I will say using Pebble w/o the separate Pebble Notifier app would diminish the value of it. Eric & Co. should just buy the developer outright for the shear functionality it has provided their little device.

  5. I love the new retro face (91 Dub) – it’s almost exactly what I need. Small day of week and day of month, large HH:MM. Navigation is much nicer too, once you retrain yourself from the old way.

Can’t wait till the SDK is out, though, and I can make My Perfect Watchface.
