NVIDIA debuts GRID Visual Computing Appliance
During today’s keynote at NVIDIA’s developer event taking place in San Francisco we were introduced to “the industry’s first visual computing appliance.” Known as the GRID VCA, the hardware is a cloud computing solution that can render complex applications remotely and allow users to run the software remotely, regardless of platform.
Using the system, which is geared toward business, users can run apps from a central location without worries of system compatibility. A Windows-only application could be accessed by a Mac user. Likewise, an Android user could do the same using their mobile device as a portal to the GRID platform.
The system being made available features 16 NVIDIA GPUs with Quadro-class graphics performance. The GRID VCA can support up to 16 users at the same time without a hitch. It doesn’t come cheap, though. Pricing starts at $24,99 along with an annual software license of $2,400. In other words, don’t expect the home version any time soon.
