Nexus 5 rumors begin to fly, latest says Nikon camera tech could be on board
Over the weekend the first hard rumors pertaining to a Nexus 5 started to make the rounds. Now, a report that said the LG-manufactured phone could launch as a 5.2-inch powerhouse with a Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB of RAM, and 16MP camera is being refuted with speculation that seems a bit tamer, on paper.
According to PhoneArena, the Nexus 5 will have a more standard array of hardware that could include a Snapdragon 600 chipset, 5-inch 1080p display, and 2GB of RAM. A juicy 3140 mAh battery would power the show. Most interesting, though, is news that Google and the undisclosed manufacturer of the device have sourced Nikon for camera tech to feature in the Android flagship.
The focus on camera quality wouldn’t be out of left field. Android has long struggled to match wits with the iPhone’s camera capabilities, and as recently as last month Google’s Vic Gundotra said the company was “committed to making Nexus phones insanely great cameras.”
For the Nexus 5, Google could go the “UltraPixel” route and feature a three-sensor camera, much like is found in the HTC One. Three stacked sensors of a lower resolution would combine to capture a single hi-res image with greater depth of color and contrast.
Tis all rumor for now. The Nexus 5, for all we know, could not launch until next fall. In the meantime, Google has plenty on their plate hardware-wise between the Nexus line and rumors of a Motorola X Phone brand.
