The general public won’t be able to register for Google I/O until March 13th, but it looks like Google is getting a head start on getting invites out to certain folks. Members of the press — including your favorite folks at Phandroid, of course — seem to be receiving the invitations, but it’s possible Google could be sending early registration invitations to select developers, as well.
It might be a long shot, but it wouldn’t be a bad idea to keep an eye on your inbox to see if Google might have graced you with an early chance to sign-up for the show (especially if you’ve been identified as a top Google Play developer in the past). Of course, if you do happen to get an invite ahead of time that doesn’t mean you won’t have to spend a bit of money. Registration will cost between $300 and $900 depending on who you are (students get in cheaper, of course). Be prepared and have some cash on-hand just in case.
Oddly enough, Google is also offering subsidized childcare for those who can’t break away from their little ones during the three-day event. If the care of a young pup is keeping you sidelined for these events then Google’s pretty much putting a “no excuse” stamp on your ticket to development workshop heaven.
That said, even if you haven’t gotten an early invite this is a good time to remind you to get ready for general registration. We’ve already discussed in the past how you should have your Google+ profile and Google Wallet account all setup and ready to go ahead of time, and to make sure you set your alarm to give yourself some headroom of an hour or so. You can read more about that here. In the meantime, be sure to check out Google’s updated ticket terms to get an idea of the restrictions put in place to ensure everyone has a fair shot at a chance to partake in all the fun. Read all of that straight ahead.
