Samsung, Chillingo launch 100% Indie initiative

In case you haven’t heard, Samsung and games market maintainer Chillingo have started an initiative that will help encourage and spur independent game development. Dubbed “100% Indie,” the movement will provide small-time game developers with a profit-maxing market that allows them to get a sales profit of 100% through the first six months of the game’s listing.

To put that into perspective, popular market places such as the Google Play Store, Amazon Appstore, and Apple App Store tend to scrape anywhere between 20% and 30% off the top. That’s a big chunk of cash that can really add up, and can be especially frustrating if you — as an independent developer — aren’t making a boatload of bucks to begin with.

Beyond that six months, Chillingo also committed to setting unprecedented revenue shares and renegotiation opportunities through March 2015, so even once your “100%” time runs out you’ll probably find it hard-pressed to find better deals elsewhere.

* Developers will receive 100% revenue from March 4, 2013 – September 3, 2013, 90% revenue share from September 4, 2013 – March 3, 2014, 80% revenue share from March 4, 2014 – March 3, 2015, and after March 4, 2015 on Samsung Apps, developers will receive 70% revenue share. Revenue share will be net of any applicable payment gateway and/or carrier charges.

Developers should note that this marketplace will only be accessible by those with Samsung devices, though, so it wouldn’t be wise to throw every last one of your eggs into this particular basket. All games submitted will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis to ensure the best quality, which means good games have a better chance at getting maximum exposure if they can convince Samsung and Chillingo that their game is worthy of being listed.

Those interested can read more about 100% Indie here, and you can also use that link to get started with the sign-up process. It doesn’t take long, and the time spent registering and submitting your content will be worth the sweet profit margins you’ll be enjoying in the event that Samsung and Chillingo approve your app. Read on for full press details.
