For the past two years, Google has gone all out for Mobile World Congress. With one of the most exciting booths on the conference floor featuring everything from games and food to gadgets and giveaways, Google’s Android booth stole the show. But could Google be following the lead of companies like Samsung and HTC, downsizing their presence at the biggest mobile show of the year?
While it may be too early to know for sure, French site TestMobile claims to have received confirmation from a Google France spokesperson confirming that the company will not host their typical giant Android booth, though members of the team will still be in Barcelona to support the efforts of their partners.
The site points out a lack of general buzz out of Google leading up to the event. Last year a countdown went live on the Android site in anticipation of MWC. None has appeared for this year’s show, though it may be too early to tell. We could see it go both ways. Typically not announcing anything of their own, Google might be choosing to focus on their Google I/O event in lieu of a spectacular setup in Spain this year. However, that hasn’t stopped them in the past.
We’re hopeful that Android will still host some sort of spectacular booth at this year’s show. Where else are we going to get our fix of free smoothies and Android-themed desserts?
