If you wanted your Samsung device with stock Android, here it is. The Samsung Galaxy Discover will forego the company’s traditional TouchWiz interface in favor of a clean Android 4.0 install when it launches on Straight Talk and Net10. The lack of a custom skin, however, is offset by the reason behind it.
The Galaxy Discover features an 800MHz CPU, 3.5-inch display with 420 x 480 resolution, and 3MP camera. Obviously, the specs will do little to satisfy the typical Android diehard. They also do little to satisfy the minimum requirements for running an Android build overlaid with Samsung’s sometimes bulky user interface. The resulting tradeoff still makes the aging Galaxy Nexus the most appealing Samsung device to run a stock build of Google’s mobile OS.
Given the carriers it is targeting and its lightweight spec sheet, expect the Galaxy Discover to retail at an affordable off-contract price. The specifics have not been made known, nor has a release date at this time.
