Huawei announces 6.1-inch Ascend Mate and 5-inch Ascend D2
The days of Huawei as a manufacturer of low-tier phones are officially over, as the company today revealed not one but two quad-core Android powerhouses. The Huawei Ascend Mate (above) and Huawei Ascend D2 (below) , which feature displays measuring in at 6.1 and 5 inches respectively, both run Android 4.1 and are a far cry from the sort of devices the Chinese company was unveiling only a few short years ago.
The latest Ascend models continue a trend that began with the Huawei Ascend P1 and Ascend D Quad, putting an emphasis on design and performance. The Ascend Mate, which boasts the biggest screen on a device billed as a smartphone that we have ever seen, and also carries an 8MP camera.
Speaking of cameras, Huawei is putting a new emphasis on imaging technology. The Ascend D2 carries a 13MP camera and f/2.2 aperture. The sensor is capable of HDR video recording. Also emphasized is battery life and performance among the new models. The D2 carries a 3000mAh battery while the Mate holds a whopping 4000mAh within. Huawei claims two days of use on a single charge for that device.
Finally, Huawei has made sure their latest phones are resistant to all the dangers that may befall our beloved handsets, including dust, water, and falls from height. The displays have been engineered with technology that can sense touch through gloves.
All things considered, there is little reason to not be impressed with what Huawei has shown this year at CES. Based on the limited showing of other manufacturers so far, we the Ascend Mate and Ascend D2 might just be some of the best handsets of the show.
