Christmas is coming early for those with an order in for Amazon’s 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD. The tablet, originally scheduled to ship on November 20th, is headed out from the warehouse today. If you missed your chance to snag one before they went on backorder, the tablet will also be available in stores tomorrow.
Amazon decided to move up the launch of the tablet to squeeze out a few extra sales this holiday season, and they have good reason. With Apple’s iPad mini and new versions of Google’s Nexus 7 hitting the market in recent weeks, the online retailer wants to take advantage of undecided buyers still weighing their options.
Best Buy will be the first to stock the $299 version of the popular Kindle Fire with Staples and RadioShack carrying the slate in the coming weeks. If you are looking to purchase direct from Amazon, be warned that the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 is currently backordered through December 3rd. The 4G version of the tablet, which is priced at $499, will launch as planned on November 20th.
