Google Maps Takes Street View Into the Ocean [Video]

Is there anywhere the Google Maps team wont go? That’s I’ve been asking myself after those crazy Googlers have successfully managed to take their first-person Street View cams into… the OCEAN. Yes, that’s right. The deep blue yonder.

Google had announced the news today but it seems it might have been a bit premature. The post has now been removed from their blog [Update: It’s back now] and users are reporting difficulty actually finding spots in maps to dive into the ocean. But once they get the kinks worked out, users will be able to use Street View on Google Maps to dive into the ocean and take a look at the Great Barrier Reef, Hawaii and the Philippines. No word when/if this will make its way into the Android Maps application, but we’d say it’s all but certain.

Hey, Apple. How’s the Brooklyn Bridge coming along in iOS 6 Maps? (Sorry, I couldn’t resist).
