CyanogenMod Announces New M-Series Monthly Releases – Emphasizes Quality Over Quantity
The folks at CyanogenMod have announced a new series of releases for their custom ROM dubbed “M-Series.” Similar their highly experimental nightly builds released on a schedule, M releases will be released every month (guess that makes them monthlies), with emphasis on quality over quantity. The CM team aims to accomplish this by freezing their codebase every so often as a way of stabilizing the ROM. This way experimental features will only be added after a build reaches the coveted stable release.
CM also released a list of devices first in line to receive their first M release. The lucky devices are as follows:

- Galaxy Nexus VZW (toro)
- Galaxy Nexus Sprint (toroplus)
- Galaxy S2 GT-I9100G (i9100g)
- Galaxy S (galaxysmtd)
- Galaxy S B (galaxysbmtd)
- Captivate (captivatemtd)
- Galaxy S3 Sprint (d2spr)
- Galaxy S3 VZW (d2vzw)
- Galaxy S3 AT&T (d2att)
- Galaxy S3 TMO (d2tmo)
- Galaxy S3 US Cellular (d2usc)
- Nexus S (crespo)
- Nexus S 4G (crespo4g)
- Galaxy Note AT&T (quincyatt)
- Google Nexus 7 (grouper)
- Sony Xperia Acro S (hikari)

Expect this list to grow with more CM supported devices as time goes on. Once again, this is CyanogenMod’s way of maintaining a higher level of quality control when it comes to their work. Given that CM is open source, anyone (and just about everyone) is able to release their own “unofficial” CM builds. This often times comes at the cost of quality, but hopefully this new move by the CM team will help stabilize things across the board.
