Mysterious HTC Device Pictured In The Wild – 5-Inch Galaxy Note Challenger Headed To Verizon?

Images of a a mysterious new HTC device have just popped up in a Chinese forum and you know what? It looks damn sexy. We really don’t have much to go on other than a few blurry images, so we’ll just speculate for now. We’ve heard rumors HTC could be working on an appox 5-inch Galaxy Note challenger and judging by what we can see in these images — this might be it.

You’ll see red colored aluminum accents along the side (hinting at a possible Verizon release), and the 3 capacitive key combo along the bottom. The back looks very similar to the HTC One X, so we wouldn’t expect a removable battery or SD card slot. In fact, this could simply be a CDMA version of the One X for all we know. After a GLbenchmark appeared not too long ago showing HTC’s plans for a device with a 1080p display, there’s been some speculation that this could be that device but I wouldn’t hold my breath. 1080p on a 5-inch device just doesn’t sound practical.

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  1. Does not need to sound practical, just good enough for the consumer to buy. Techies are not even 10% when it comes to phones, this appeals to the regular consumer.

  2. …and it has a 1200 mwh battery!

    1. My first thought!

  3. Looks like an EVO variant

  4. Dear 8 pound 6 ounce baby Jesus please be the DLX ! Been holding OG Droid Incredible for too long…

  5. HTC EVO Note? Looks like a sprint device, not verizon.

    1. I said the same thing sprint not Verizon. red is usually for evo.

      1. Um, Dinc much?

      2. Umm, not all the time.. (eg droid incredible)

        1. My first guess was Evo. The back is too plain to be in the Incredible line. However, there’s no kickstand, so unless they dropped the ̶b̶a̶l̶l̶ styling for this large variant it’s not an Evo either. So I’m going with just a generic One X and the black and red isn’t indicative of anything.

          1. Yeah its probably Verizon’s variant of the One X

          2. EVO 3D, EVO Shift, and EVO Design didn’t have a kickstand

          3. Yeah, I know but they should’ve. Hopefully HTC learned their lesson.

          4. I concur :)

    2. Except Sprint just got the EVO 4G LTE, and it’s highly unlikely that they would put out a new EVO only a few months after having the LTE version debut.

Another reason I’d place this on Verizon is that the current word is that a 5-inch HTC phone is headed toward Verizon sometime in September/October-ish.

As far as the red on the thing it makes more sense that “Big Red” would be it’s ultimate destination. The Droid Incredible 1 & 2 as well as the new LTE version, and the Rezound, all have red accents.

  6. This looks like the htc j, which was released in japan some time ago and is supposed to launch in hong kong shortly, rather than a galaxy note killer. http://www.htc.com/jp/

    1. yeah you’re right that’s what it is

      1. Nope, Compare the bezels. This one is far more superior in size. This could be an “XL” version of it.

        1. Also, the entire design of it is different lol the only the they have in common is red/black and the three buttons. The whole back of it is different, and that HTC J is only a 4.3″ qHD. It also has an 8660 in it, which, is old. So, no, this is not that phone.

  7. capacitive buttons in Sep 2012?????

    booooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. I call them 3D buttons.

    2. I will always favor capacitive buttons for the advantage of not taking up screen real estate.

  8. Doesn’t sound practical? 1080p is what a 5″ device should be!

  9. looks pretty sexy to me, lets just hope battery life is good…

  10. I’d rather have the Galaxy Note 2.

  11. Rezound 2.

  12. Its a Rezound 2 or Vigor 2 the style, color, shape all go towards Verizon Vigor 2.

  13. It looks like a Device with “beats by dre”. It’s the same red and if you look at the seconds picture you can see a red label or logo which for me looks like the beats logo. It’s kind of strange because htc didn’t wanted to bring another beats device.

  14. They should concentrate one making the ONE series right, by giving it expandable storage and replaceable batteries. I was disappointed to know they completely screwed themselves with their latest flagship devices.

  15. “1080p on a 5-inch device just doesn’t sound practical.” I guess you have never hooked up your phone to your Full HD TV. Seems to me that It is easier to engineer a mirrored display to get phone to display on TV than to run two different resolutions which requires two different graphics processors. Get an MHL connector or use the MediaLink device. http://www.htc.com/www/smartphones/accessories/htc-media-link-hd/ . It is not a phone, it is a computer. Given that goal we need to go beyond Full HD. So another few years should bring us 2080p resolution and KB + mouse + monitor docs.
