Stable builds of CyanogenMod 9 going out tonight

The CyanogenMod team has announced that CyanogenMod 9 will be rolling out to their servers tonight. They’ve mentioned that the majority of the devices which were officially on their radar for Ice Cream Sandwich will be getting stable builds, but a few “stragglers” will be left behind for a short time.

This is great, but when there’s Jelly Bean ready for consumption folks may wonder why the team didn’t just skip this one. Their reasoning is because they don’t like to leave things unfinished, and I’d say that’s a pretty damn good reason.

They also want people to have a taste of at least one modern version of Android while they get to work on the next. Kudos to the team for that one. But there’s still the issue of Jelly Bean to take care of.

You’ll be happy to know that they’ll be moving on from CyanogenMod 9 right away to begin work on CyanogenMod 10. No new features will be added to CM9, but should you choose to flash it you’ll still be getting updates to fix critical bugs.

One more thing to note is that this will effectively kill nightlies for CyanogenMod 9 but that’s because nightlies for CyanogenMod 10 will be taking its place.

There are no stable builds just yet (you’ll see one on the server but it’s not meant to be downloaded) but be sure to check this link later on and get the download specific to your device. [CyanogenMod]
