XBMC getting early access to OUYA console for development

8

This is some pretty good news for those who are hoping the OUYA gaming console will shape up to be the ultimate media experience.

XBMC has announced its support for OUYA by mentioning that the two parties are working together to make sure XBMC, the open source media center application that got its start on a console (the original Xbox, if you were wondering or cared) works smoothly once OUYA launches.

XBMC has been lauded as the definitive media center experience even compared to the premium options currently available. A launch on the OUYA console would make the gaming box even more desirable than it already is.

I don’t need to tell anyone the disappointment Google’s Nexus Q has been, and OUYA’s easy setup combined with XBMC’s extreme flexibility makes this a marriage that I am ready to endorse.

It seems like new partnerships and developments for OUYA are announced every other day so we’re excited to see what the future holds. [XBMC]

  1. Well, that settles it. I’m on board.

    1. Same thing here. If XBMC is on-board then I’m sold.

      1. yep. been wanting an uber low power XBMC device for a while, just Hope they ship a remote with tactile buttons, touch remotes suck.

  2. OUYA will be the best of its kind when it releases, but I still don’t want one.
It is just combining what Android could be, so it is not really impressive imo.
And by the time it is out it will be even less impressive.

Still miles ahead of the competition which seems nearly non-existant at the moment.
Google TV? Pfffff what a let down!

  3. Google will buy them.

    1. I think that’s the only true purpose of this enterprise. And I see nothing bad in it.

  4. Why is it that XBMC has not had much success on making an official android port to date but this comes along and all of a sudden it is go time. Don’t get me wrong, I am excited. Just odd.

  5. I thought this would be a great fit. Can’t wait until i get mine!
