Jelly Bean not reaching Vodafone Australia’s Nexus S today

Yesterday Vodafone Australia made a post to their blog stating to the exact hour when Jelly Bean would be available for Nexus S handsets on their network. As 1PM AEST came and went, the company posted an update on their blog stating that the update to Android 4.1 would not be occurring today. It would have been a bit surprising to see the new version of Android rollout considering the fact that Google hasn’t even released an official Jelly Bean build to unlocked Nexus S devices around the world, a process that typically occurs before carrier locked devices receive the same update.

According to Vodafone, the reason for a delay has nothing to do with Google providing the files. Instead, it relates to the software not meeting Australian regulatory requirements for placing emergency calls. Unfortunately, the carrier has no update on when exactly users might see Android 4.1 on their Nexus S devices. And that brings us to wonder where Google is with an update for unlocked devices, as well.
