Samsung finally gets cut a little slack in the Netherlands, where a Dutch court has ruled in favor of Samsung — you read that right, Samsung — in a dispute with Apple over 3G patents. The description for Samsung patent #EP1188269 describes an “apparatus for encoding a transport format combination indicator for a communications system.” I haven’t the slightest clue what all that means, but it sounds pretty general. Apparently, the patent was descriptive enough for a District Court in Holland to find Apple in violation, specifically, with their 1st and 2nd gen iPads, iPhone 3G, 3GS and 4.
If you were hoping this would mean an all out ban on Apple’s products in the Netherlands, I hate to rain on your sick little parade (okay, I was secretly hoping for the same), but being that the whole dispute was over a FRAND patent, Apple can continue selling their products as usual. But make no mistake, they will forced into forking over an “adequate” sum of cash in compensation.

If I were Samsung I’d ask for US$ 80 billions in compensastion.
That’s their entire cash pile! Lol
They can’t. It’s a FRAND patent, so they must be Fair Reasonable and Non Discriminatory…. as the name implies.
Can’t ask for more then they would anyone else just because Apple are dicks. Hence the Non Discriminatory bit. ;)
They are still owned compensation for their usage, they just cant go crazy with how much they should be payed.
we were just doing a little wishful thinking, but yeah, we know how it works:)
Should have been a DBAD patent (“Don’t Be A D*ck”), then Apple would have lost all their money O_o
lol
I dunno what to say, but I like it. x_O
shouldn’t the compensation be a per device sold so far thing? cause they’ve been using the technology patented for the entire product lifespan(that’s an assumption, but i don’t see them chopping and changing the 3g management in anyway if it spans over the majority of their products)
Apple is aware that their mojo won’t last forever and are doing everything possible to forestall progress by competitors. By default that means that Apple is fighting against the consumer. This tells me that consumers need to it support android devices that favor the consumer by their openness.
Not trying to be the spelling/grammar nazi, but I think you meant “skirmish” in the title. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/skirmish?s=t
unless it’s meant as a combination of squirm and skirmish.
I think leave it, it looks rather funny
