Minor update pushing to ASUS Transformer Prime, activates Face Unlock

10

The ASUS Transformer Prime is receiving another minor update, one which brings about a few new tweaks to the tablet’s Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. The major addition here is the ability to use Android 4.0’s Face Unlock, a feature which has been promised for some time but has yet to be activated on the Prime. Other bug fixes and small changes are likely to be found in the update, which brings the tablet’s software version to 9.4.2.28., so let us know what you uncover!

  1. w00t! Thanks Asus! Been waiting on this since the TF101 got it.

    1. Update: got the update and Face unlock is working nicely.

  2. Do unlocked tabs still get OTAs. Never unlocked before. It was my first time.

    1. ASUS’ unlocked tabs don’t get OTA’s. You’ll have to get the update via custom ROM.

  3. To unlock this feature you need to go to security in the settings the hit where it says unlock pin to do the setup

  4. Ever time I select face unlock it states unfortunately settings has stopped can someone help

  5. Works!! Happy.

  6. If you’re encrypted, you cannot use face unlock. Just FYI.

  7. Face Unlock closes “Settings” for me, no good. The rest of the update is nice though, things feel a little snappier, but could be placebo.. Oh well, hopefully another update will be out soon to fix the Face Unlock issue, it’s a gimmick for me, but I’d like to try it before I decide not to use it.. :P

  8. Reportedly (from asus statement on XDA), this also should improve WIFI and GPS, in addition to making the default browser considerably more stable. Per reports on XDA of those using the newest release, it also seems to affect chrome beta, making it a bit more stable as well. Note, none of these things are full fixes, as there’s still poor wifi performance overall, and the browser does still crash albiet less often.
