I know I say this a lot around here but, the tireless work of the Android modding community never ceases to amaze me. Really. Just take a look at the HTC Sensation 4G who — thanks to the work of a few good devs on XDA — has found itself the subject of a software mod that just about everyone would want on their rooted device.
NODO-GT and friends have found a way to shoot uncompressed images and double the bitrate on the Sensation, vastly improving video and still shots on the device. Only available for ICS based ROMs, the mod gives the device now has the ability to shoot 1080p video at 20MB/s with an upcoming version that will give even higher quality at 40MB/s (as well as improved 720p shooting).
So how much better quality is the video after the software mod? Well, the proof is in the pudding. Check out the before and after images of the 1080p video recording below (click twice for full size).
I can only hope some of this magic could be worked on the Galaxy Nexus (currently en route to my house) who’s image and video quality hasn’t exactly been receiving rave reviews. For the flashable zip files, head on over the original thread in the source link below.
