Pocket-Lint has supposedly heard from a source that HTC will be getting PlayStation certified devices later this year. If true, this means HTC will be able to offer users Sony-made games on their phones, something no other manufacturer outside of Sony/Sony Ericsson can say.
It wasn’t clarified whether or not HTC would have a device ready to go sometime this year but Pocket-Lint suggests HTC could be ready to go with a device to show off by the time Mobile World Congress comes around.
It’ll be interesting to see if HTC brings out at least one phone with a physical slide-out gamepad ala the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY, but it’s possible they’ll just go the touchscreen route.
HTC is looking to streamline their product development starting this year and will look to make better, more unique devices. Being able to add even just one gaming-centric device to their portfolio could help them separate themselves from this over-saturated market.
Of course, HTC had hoped Beats Audio technology inside some of their phones would do that trick but PlayStation certification is an even bigger step forward. We look forward to seeing what’s in store for the Taiwanese company this year.
