HyperDevbox Releases PlayStation Portable Strategy RPG “Generation of Chaos” For Android
Now this is a trend I don’t mind seeing. HyperDevbox Studio is at it again, this time porting another one of their PlayStation Portable titles to Android with Generation of Chaos. It’s funny because I’ve been meaning to purchase this game for my PSP for months now but was hesitant seeing how I can’t remember where I put the darn thing. But you know whats in my pocket right now? My Android phone.
Generation of Chaos is a strategy RPG in the vein of Final Fantasy Tactics that offers over 100 hours of turn-based gameplay and is playable on just about any Android powered smartphone. Players can engage in 30 vs 30 battles with over 150 characters to choose from, spanning across 10 different campaigns. HyperDevbox put a lot of work into this title giving you 2 different touch configurations and support for a touch+keyboard combo (with key mapping). The game is also Xperia Play optimized (consider me jealous).
The game doesn’t come without it’s downsides, however. Given this is an almost direct port from a PSP game, there is a huge 1.8GB mandatory install onto your SD card which could take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to download. As you may know, the Android Market has a very short 15 minute return window. Thankfully, the developers included a compatibility check that can be executed before starting the lengthy download, giving you enough time to make that return window should your device not find itself supported.
The other issue is with the price. The PSP version of the game was released at $40 and has since dropped to around $25-$30. The Android version is the exact same game but with the added benefit of convenience and can take advantage of higher resolution screens. This makes Generation of Chaos a great value even at (here’s the kicker) $15. I know that will most likely be a deal breaker for some but I don’t mind paying for my video games. Especially ones that offer more depth than mindless hack n’ slash. I’m in.
