Sony Ericsson Confirms Entire 2011 Android Phone Portfolio Getting Android 4.0
Following the release of Android 4.0’s source code yesterday, you had to imagine more manufacturers would begin bringing to light their plans to upgrade devices within their Android portfolios.
While not many have solidified plans just yet, one manufacturer has already stepped forward and provided a list of all their 2011 devices. In a blog post this morning, Sony Ericsson confirmed that the following phones would get the upgrade:
Xperia™ arc and arc S, Xperia™ PLAY, Xperia™ neo and neo V, Xperia™ mini and mini pro, Xperia™ pro, Xperia™ active, Xperia™ ray as well as Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman™
This is great news considering the hardware that is inside these devices. Most (maybe all) have single-core Snapdragon processors, something that is very refreshing for us to see considering the idea was that only dual-core devices would get in on the party.
Sony Ericsson says they will be merging their own software features into Ice Cream Sandwich’s, meaning you can indeed expect there to be a custom user interface on top of it all.
It’ll be interesting to see how they go about this, but we won’t get our hopes up that Android’s user interface wasn’t mucked with much. In any case, we’re just excited to see Sony Ericsson committing to these plans and we can’t wait for other OEMs to eventually step forward.
