Lookout Mobile Security Heads to Tablets

9

Lookout Mobile Security wants to stay true to their product and provide security for all mobiles, so in addition to Android smartphones they have launched support for Android 3.0+. You can backup your photos, find your phone using the siren and the GPS locator feature, scan apps for virus and more. (Certain features are only available with a paid subscription).

Your existing myLookout.com account for your phone will also work for your tablet so you can track the two at the same time. They directed us to the Android market but we’re not seeing it there yet. We’ll be on the lookout (really, I didn’t mean to) for it sometime later. [Lookout]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. What is that picture of an iPad doing here?! IT BURNS!

    1. Because iOS gets malware too. Apple patented it.

    2. Because Lookout Mobile Security has created an absolutely pointless app for iOS. It basically backs up data, which is what iCloud does, and finds your iOS device, which is what Apple’s Find My iPhone app does, and tells you when you’re on an unsecure network…

Of course iOS doesn’t need malware scanners. Apps are sandboxed. But things like that are hardly enough reason to not try and make a quick buck.

Still, if you’re on Android, such an app may be necessary.

      ;)

    3. It’s even funnier because it’s an iPad, with a straight OS X Safari screenshot photoshopped in, not even the iPad browser.

      1. I noticed that too. They can’t even get a photoshop pic right, why would I trust them to find malware.

    4. Better yet, why is the iPad running the desktop version of Safari?

  2. *This just in…

Seems Lookout has found that viruses on tablets has just jumped by 500% just after they released their tablet app. Run for your lives! (But get our app first)*

  3. I refuse to use Lookout, because their ad shows up every three seconds on the Scrabble app.

  4. one thing im worried about is these comapnies worrying about not making money and then they become the ones making malware and then they say “buy our software [and your problems will magically get solved]”
