Motorola’s MOTOACTV – A Smart Fitness Watch – Officially Announced for November

Motorola has announced the MOTOACTV, a fitness watch that Motorola’s touting as the smartest yet. It’s an Android-based watch that focuses on fitness and music playing as the two go hand-in-hand. It’s a 46mm square device that weighs just 35 grams, a 1.6 inch capacitive display and has a 600MHz processor. We’re not too sure any of you will care about that, though – rooting and overclocking this thing would be silly.

For the fitness stuff, it’ll record all the usuals – pace and miles per hour, steps, your heartrate and it even has specific recording modes for different workouts like treadmills, ellipticals, step machines and more. And as you’ll likely be in the elements with it, they’ve made it scratch, shock and sweat resistant so you can workout anywhere and sweat as profusely as you want.

As for the music part, you’ll get to load up to 4,000 songs (not an exact figure, of course) and also listen to FM radio. The device will automatically fade your music into a paused state as your device gives you audial updates on your vitals and your workout progress.

All of that will be possible with a compatible wireless headset that interfaces with the device. Motorola says not only does music sound great in the headset, it also has a heart-rate monitor so you don’t have to worry about having to take your own reading (which can waste time or lead to inaccurate reads).

The MOTO ACTV will interface with a special website – motoactv.com – that will allow you to sync your fitness progress, create custom workout plans, share your workout statistics with your friends and more. We imagine at some point all of this will sync up to your phone, though Motorola made no mention of that.

The device will be made available in Novebmer for $250 (8GB) and $300 (16GB). The SF700 and SF500 wireless headsets will be $150 and $100, respectively. Read on for full press details

Your playlist is more than just workout songs: they’re songs that push you to perform at your best. The smart music player learns what tracks motivate you most by measuring your performance against your music and then uses those songs to create your personal high-performance playlist.

On those days when your automatically generated high-performance playlist isn’t doing the trick, you can switch to FM radio for even more song variety. And if the music is really moving you, go that extra mile – MOTOACTV tracks your outdoor training via GPS.
