AT&T Announces Motorola Atrix 2, Samsung Captive Glide, AT&T Avail, Pantech Pocket and Samsung DoubleTime [Whew]

AT&T’s just dropped a boatload of new Android phones on us as they look to prove that they still aren’t all about the iPhone. From high-end beasts like the Motorola ATRIX 2 and the Samsung Captivate Glide to mid-range/entry level offerings like the Pantech Pocket, AT&T Avail and the Samsung DoubleTime, they’ve got almost everyone covered in one fell swoop. Below we give you the scoop on each one.

Samsung Captivate Glide

The device’s name would suggest that this is a mid-range handset, but the Captivate Glide (pictured above) is more than that. With its keyboard, it also boasts a dual-core Tegra 2 processor, 1GB of RAM, an 8 megapixel 1080p HD shooter, a 1.3 megapixel front camera, a 4 inch WVGA Super AMOLED display, HDMI-out (likely through an MHL port), Android 2.3, HSPA+ 21mbps and more.

Motorola ATRIX 2

The ATRIX 2 looks like a modest upgrade compared to the original. AT&T mentions it has a dual-core processor but doesn’t mention make and model. It also has an 8 megapixel camera capable of shooting 1080p HD video, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, a 4.3 inch qHD LCD display, HSPA+ 21mbps radios, Android 2.3 and more. And as you’d expect, this will be compatible with Motorola’s Lapdock 100. AT&T is launching the ATRIX 2 on October 16th for $100.

Samsung DoubleTime

This phone probably won’t have most of you speeding to the checkout counter, but it looks to be an affordable option for those who want a smartphone without all the “on paper” specs we’ve come to know and dearly love. We’re looking at Android 2.2 (yes, Froyo), a 3.2 inch HVGA display, a 600MHz processor and 260MB of on-board storage for those of you who need space to install their apps (it does come with a 2GB microSD card and the slot can handle up to a 32GB microSD card).

Pantech Pocket

Although the name would suggest this phone would be a pocketable one, the Pantech Pocket brings you a 4 inch SVGA smartphone. At 11.3mm thin and 4.66 ounces light, it isn’t the smallest but it can hold its own in that department. We’re also looking at Android 2.3, a 5 megapixel camera with flash and HD video recording, 600MB-2.5GB of internal storage and a 2GB microSD card included inside a slot capable of holding 32GB cards. Bluetooth 2.1, WiFi, GPS – it’s all there, too.

AT&T Avail

The Avail is manufactured by ZTE and is set to be sold as a GoPhone, AT&T’s prepaid brand. You can expect an affordable package but this one seems to be fairly capable with a 3.5 inch display, Android 2.3, a 5 megapixel autofocus camera with video recording, 512MB of RAM, 512MB of RAM and a 2GB microSD card preinstalled.

AT&T’s banking on drawing smartphone consumers from all sorts of financial backgrounds, from the budget conscious to those who want the latest and greatest inside. It’s a huge improvement and a huge commitment compared to 2009 and early 2010 where AT&T was seen as the anti-Android carrier (thanks to its longstanding with Apple as the exclusive American carrier of the iPhone), but what a different a couple of years can make. Read on for full press details (we’ll be adding more images shortly).
