Google Acquires Zagat to Further Innovate User Restaurant Reviews
Quentyn Kennemer
While I have never been a restaurant review-reading type of guy (I prefer to go in without any preconceived notions), I know there are millions out there who are. Google – who already hosts a pretty OK review directory of their own – has decided to acquire Zagat, who some consider to be the cream of the crop when it comes to this type of service. No details of the acquisition were given, but Google did give insight into what they might be doing with their newly-acquired team.
Their blog posting suggests they’ll be integrating technology of Zagat’s into their own Places service. Conversely, Google will be lending a hand to Zagat on their long-standing product, as well. Unless Google takes Zagat off the map (which, given their history and prestige, I’m sure would never happen), I’d say this acquisition is a win for everyone. [Google]
