The last time we heard of the Gingerbread update for the “Dinc” was in Verizon’s leaked documentation displaying a 4.06.605.2 OTA update was ready to roll out but for unknown reasons, found itself delayed. Well, it’s been a long time coming but the official build of the Gingerbread update (as documented in the Verizon leak) for the HTC Droid Incredible has been leaked online and courtesy of AndroidPolice.
Besides the typical Android 2.3 Gingerbread features, users can also look forward to:
- MMS Messages send correctly
- Successfully play audio files from a message
- Send Vcard through SMS
- Internet connections via Bluetooth now enabled
- VZ Navigator now operates over Wi-Fi
- Change songs in the Music widget by tapping the forward button
- Camera functions successfully without inserting SD card
Installation Instructions:
- Download this file (Mirror) (MD5: 096d841530dd2f223ef4a1b701c7d429)
- Rename the file to PB31IMG.zip
- Drop it on the root of the SD Card
- Boot into the bootloader
- Flash as usual
Keep in mind this is a full RUU so if you attempt to install this update, you will start completely from scratch erasing all apps and removing root (if you have it). Anyone going to make the jump and install this or will you continue waiting for Verizon to push it out OTA?

Hopefully this isn’t bunk, because I saw an article about how HTC decided to cancel the OTA 2.3 update for the DInc.
HTC later released a statement saying the update was never cancelled and is still scheduled to roll out… http://phandroid.com/2011/08/12/gingerbread-update-still-on-for-the-droid-incredible/
Ah, nice, missed that one. Thanks! If I still had my DInc, I would certainly be happy to have this RUU.
=))
That rumor was quite awhile ago. The HTC rep who replied was from HTC Canada. about a few days to a week after that rumor broke, HTC conrfirmed that the orig. Incredible would get Android 2.3.4. It was supposed to go out on the 16th (some apparently got the OTA) but it was pulled for some issues. So it is coming.
P.S. From what I’ve read to day, this RUU is the same build that was halted. Users who install may get left out on the official update when it drops, unless they have a way to get back to Froyo. Just reporting what another Android site mentioned with their story on this subject.
Eh erasing all apps. No thanks.
I think I’d wait for Verizon to F things up for me instead of myself…
Once I resync my apps with App Brain, I’ll probably run this tonight. My Dinc was replaced 2 weeks ago due to loss of the interwebs so won’t be much of a headache to start from scratch again.
It seems to be a pretty good build. Its just annoying to have lost some apps (Wireless tether, better alarm clock which isn’t GB supported apparently..). Luckily I have the RUU for 2.2 so I don’t have to worry about not getting the official update.
So If I am rooted will VZW push an OTA to my INC? And if/when they do will it kill my root?
