Acer Finally Announces Launch Date For The 4.8-inch Iconia Smart

11

It’s been a long time coming but Acer has announced via their Deutschland Facebook page that the Iconia Smart will finally be launching this September in Germany. Although the 4.8-inch “phoneblet” sounds like it would be huge in comparison to current 4.3-inch devices but really, the screen only adds pixels along the top and bottom of the device, providing for a longer screen. Should be perfect for killing those annoying black bars when watching movies. The phone packs a 1024×480 resolution display, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, Android 2.3 Gingerbread and will retail for around €499 ($710). Still no word when/if we’ll see this device stateside but we’ll keep you guys posted.

  1. correction, it will launch in September but only in Germany, there is no intel of other release dates or countries. probably Acer is checking the waters see how it sells, remember they cut-off productions a while back for some devices.

  2. Doesn’t look half bad acer should bring some of these to the US.

    1. Yeah, I definitely like the Iconia Smart’s form factor. It’s not biting off of the iPhone like most phones these days =p

  3. A measly Snapdragon powering all those pixels? I smell a fail :(. Should’ve gone with Omap or at least tegra

    1. That’s what I was thinking. This device would have been cool back in Feb when it was announced but now it’s looking slightly dated. Better have a good price to reflect those older specs…

  4. Wee! So instead of black bars on the top and bottom, it’ll have bars on the sides. Brilliant!

      1. I was just kidding around. Obviously it’ll let the video span the whole height, instead of only a portion of it. But with the exception of a few epic movies (like 300 for example), there will still be black bars on the edges.

  5. no dual core i mean shit man

  6. A year too late. Nice try Acer.

  7. Is it coming to the USA
