Okay, it’s areas like this where Android will always win over iOS, flexibility. Take this VINCI Tab. It’s an Android tablet made for toddlers and I’m sure it’s going to make a lot of people say, “Why didn’t I think of that?” Just from the looks of it you can see this tablet was built tough thanks to it’s patented design complete with foam handles and tempered glass, unlike your dainty iPad or Galaxy Tab. This guy is definitely meant to take a beating (the tablet, not the kid).
Where you normally would have to stand over and keep a close eye on your child with your primary tablet, the VINCI has no connection to WiFi or wireless networks of any kind. You won’t have to worry about your little rugrat “accidentally” buying $15 dollar games from the Market, visiting inappropriate websites (hey, kids love the letter “X”) or deleting any media you want to keep safe.
I’m sure you’re already thinking, “That thing must have the worst specs since Augen’s K-Mart tablet.” Well, that’s not entirely the case. The VINCI Tab comes with 7-inch 800×480 touchscreen display, 1GHz Cortex A8 processor, 512MB of RAM and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Not too shabby for a kids toy. VINCI is also encouraging app developers to help join their efforts and develop age-specific and inspirational games and books.
The VINCI Tab is expected to launch August 10th and here’s where things get a little iffy. The tablet will carry a $480 price tag for the 8GB version and $389 for the 4GB version. I wonder if it comes with an unlocked bootloader…
